College is an exciting time in a young person’s life and marks the beginning of the higher education journey, but the reality for students in foster care or experiencing homelessness is far from ideal.  Many are moving into dorms with little to no family and financial support, and do not have the means to create a place to call home. The purpose of the Dorm Kit Project is to remove this initial barrier. The Dorm Kit Project provides students in foster care or experiencing homelessness with the essential items needed to move into their dorm room as they begin college. Each dorm kit is a starter pack for dorm living, including bedding, bath towels and essentials, laundry and cleaning products, and school supplies. Each dorm kit offers security and a sense of warmth to students as they settle into their new home and begin their next educational journey.
